Dante is a several hundred year old vampire who has been a reliable confidant of Ava, the Sin of Greed, since the Inquisition. He considers himself a pretty simple guy as long as he has something to keep him entertained. His fierce loyalty to Ava began when she pulled a holy man off his person and led him to safety, and has since never abated. Dante and Ava have enjoyed a snarky relationship in the centuries since they became acquainted, and despite an obvious mutual attraction and one close call, their relationship has never made it to the bedroom. Dante makes no secret to himself that he is in love with Ava, but suspects nothing will ever come of it, mostly due to his own mistakes. He knows, though, that when she is ready to open her heart, should the day come, he'll be ready to answer the call. However, when he discovers she has fallen in love with an angel, he takes to the bottle to drown his sorrows. When Ava's relationship falls apart, putting her life in jeopardy as a result, Dante rushes to her side, despite his jealousy and resentment.
In truth, Dante might have been in lust before, but Ava remains the only woman with whom he has ever been in love. All he has to do is convince her he's what she really needs while simultaneously battling off Hell's army.
